Lille striker, Victor Osimhen has said that he chose Wolfsburg over plethoras of clubs that wanted his service because he wanted to start playing immediately he turned 18.

He got his wish after leading the pack for the Nigerian under-17 team to win the FIFA World Under 17 World cup.

Speaking with BBC, the goal poacher who said Ivorian legend, Didier Drogba is his idol  in Ligue 1, revealed that he spoke with former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger after the under-17 World Cup ended and expressed interested in bringing him to  Arsenal, but he also had other options which include  Barcelona, Internationale,  Atletico Madrid, Juventus amongst others admitted that Arsenal was a good option, but was not the best for him.

The reason, according to him, was because he wanted to start playing as soon as he turned 18 at a club where he had time to invest in my game and improve physically. So, Wolfsburg showed him that possibility, he said.

In his first season in the French league, Osimhen who found the back of the net 13 times was behind Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé, Monaco striker, Wissam ben Yedder and his Lyon’s counterpart Moussa Dembélé.

This has made him a hot cake as top European clubs jostle for his service. Recently, an unnamed club tendered  70m pounds to sigh him from the Ligue 1 club.

Osimhen started with the Ultimate Strikers Academy in Lagos and took his opportunity at the 2015 U17 World Cup.

After the tournament, Wolfsburg, which had won the 2008-09 Bundesliga championship got Osimhen on its book in January 2017.

He said it was the best place for him to learn and develop because his heart was there with Bundesliga.

Osimhen however, failed to play as he was limited to just 45 minutes of action due to a knee injury in his first season. In the next season, he was unable to find the back of the net in 12 attempts as well.

But he was able to learn from former Germany international Mario Gomez and current Liverpool forward Divock Origi doing the scoring business as he was given a front-row seat.

His career started from Charleroi after Wolfsburg released him and the rest they stay is history after bagging in 19 goals in 34 domestic to win the club’s best player award. The rest they say is history at Lille.
